Yellow Eye Kole Tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus)
Yellow Eye Kole Tang, commonly known as the Striped Bristletooth or Goldring Bristletooth, shares its nickname, Kole Yellow Eye Tang, with the Spotted Bristletooth. This fish features an oval body shape adorned with striking markings that evolve as it matures. Juveniles exhibit a yellow-gold to tan hue with distinctive stripes and spots, while adults transition to a richer brown coloration with blue to burgundy accents. Depending on its geographical origin, the adult may display a variety of spots or stripes. For optimal care, a 70-gallon or larger aquarium is recommended to provide ample swimming space. The Yellow Eye Kole Tang can be aggressive towards other Tangs, so it’s best to keep only one per tank. Fortunately, it does not pose a threat to sessile invertebrates in a reef setup. While these Tangs will consume meaty foods along with other fish, it’s crucial to include plenty of marine-based seaweed and algae in their diet. This not only boosts their immune system but also helps reduce aggression and promotes overall health. Dried seaweed can be secured to a rock or offered using a veggie clip, with feeding recommended at least three times a week. Products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are excellent and user-friendly options.
