Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse
Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis)
The Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse, also known as the Rosy-scales Fairy Wrasse, hails from the waters around the Maldives. This small, vibrant fish showcases a striking coloration, with the front part of its body being red and the remainder yellow. As it matures, the scales near the front develop dark edges. Females have more subdued colors compared to the brilliantly colored males, who can turn almost white on their sides during courtship to attract a mate. The colors of this fish may also change based on its mood.
The Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse is a peaceful and active species that adds both color and movement to a fish-only or reef aquarium of at least 70 gallons. It is reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates, making it an excellent choice for a reef environment. Because these wrasses are known to jump, a tight-fitting canopy is essential.
A well-rounded diet for the Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse should include vitamin-enriched frozen mysis and brine shrimp, along with other meaty foods, as well as high-quality marine flakes and pellets.
