Mexican Rock Wrasse
Mexican Rock Wrasse (Thalassoma lucasanum)
The Cortez Rainbow Wrasse, also known as the Mexican Rock Wrasse during its juvenile stage, features a striking appearance with a bluish-purple head and tail, a bright yellow saddle over the shoulder, and purple sides as an adult.Wrasses from the Halichoeres and Thalassoma generally are among the most active within the wrasse family. Generally narrow and torpedo-shaped, Thalassoma wrasses inhabit the upper to mid-water areas of the aquarium, while Halichoeres wrasses tend to stay closer to the substrate or rockwork, especially when young. They often bury themselves in the substrate when resting or feeling threatened, which can lead to confusion with some Coris wrasses.
