Half and Half Banner Wrasse
Half and Half Banner Wrasse (Hemigymnus melapterus)
The Half & Half Wrasse, also known as the Banner Wrasse, Maori Wrasse, or Blackedge Wrasse, is a striking fish characterized by its dark, scaly back and shimmering silvery face adorned with subtle blue stripes and thick lips.
This species can grow up to 20 inches and is best housed in large aquariums of at least 150 gallons. They require plenty of live rock, a thick sandy substrate for burrowing, and a tightly sealed lid to prevent escapes. While the Half & Half Wrasse does not harm corals, it is not considered reef-safe, as it may exhibit aggression toward smaller fish and may consume small ornamental invertebrates. They are also known to eat worms, including fan worms and bristle worms, found in the aquarium.
