Flagfin Angelfish
Flagfin Angelfish (Apolemichthys trimaculatus)
The Flagfin Angelfish, also known as the Threespot Angelfish, boasts a brilliant yellow hue with blue lips, a dark blue-black dorsal spot at the head-body junction, and a light tan spot behind the eye. In a 125-gallon tank or larger, ensure ample hiding spots as the Flagfin Angelfish is initially shy and should be the sole angel in the tank. Unsuitable for reef environments, it tends to nip at sessile invertebrates like soft and stony corals, as well as clam mantles.
Due to its challenging dietary requirements focused on sponges and its limited adaptability to other foods, maintaining the Flagfin Angelfish can be difficult. Experienced aquarists may succeed by offering a varied diet, including sponge-containing frozen angelfish rations, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, abundant plant material, and live rock for grazing and hiding.
