Heniocus Butterfly (Heniochus acuminatus)
The Heniochus Black & White Butterflyfish, also known as the Longfin Bannerfish, is a stunning species with a unique appearance and interesting behaviors. Its striking white body with two bold black stripes and the characteristic elongated dorsal filament make it easily recognizable. The yellow fins, including the soft dorsal and caudal fins, add to its beauty. The black markings above the eyes give it an even more distinctive look.
These fish are commonly referred to as Bannerfish due to the banner-like appearance of their elongated dorsal fin, which sways gracefully as they swim. However, despite their beauty, Heniochus Black & White Butterflyfish are not considered reef-safe, so care must be taken when introducing them into a reef aquarium, as they might nip at corals and invertebrates.
When it comes to tank requirements, these fish thrive in larger aquariums, ideally 125 gallons or more, where they can live peacefully with other fish of similar temperament. They are known to get along with others of their species as long as they are introduced together, though they can be territorial.
Their diet consists mainly of small meaty foods, along with herbivore preparations. They prefer a varied diet to stay healthy, which should include both plant-based and animal-based foods.
