Spotted Sweetlips Juvenile
Spotted Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus chaetodonoides)
The Spotted Sweetlips, also known as the Clown Sweetlips or Harlequin Sweetlips, undergoes a notable color transformation as it matures. Juveniles have a brown base adorned with large white dots edged in darker margins, while adults develop a white body with distinctive black dots.
Given its potential size and rapid growth—reaching up to three feet in length—a minimum 500-gallon aquarium is essential. This spacious tank should offer ample swimming room and numerous hiding spots. In a reef setup, the Spotted Sweetlips may prey on smaller crustaceans, fireworms, serpent stars, small snails, and polychaete worms.
Initially, live saltwater feeder shrimp should be used to encourage feeding. After acclimation, the Spotted Sweetlips will accept a variety of marine carnivore foods.
