Black and Gold Chromis
Black and Gold Chromis (Neoglyphidodon nigroris)
The Black and Gold Chromis (Neoglyphidodon nigroris), also known as the Bicolor Blackmouth Chromis, Blackmouth Chromis, Blackmouth Damselfish, or Behn’s Damselfish, hails from the Indo-Pacific region, where it typically resides in reef environments and coastal areas with branching corals. Juveniles are generally peaceful, but as they mature, they can become more aggressive and territorial. This makes them suitable for novice aquarists with tanks of at least 30 gallons that provide plenty of hiding spots. These reef-safe, omnivorous fish have a striking yellow body with two horizontal black bars, which may darken with age. They typically grow to a size of 2.5 to 3 inches and have a lifespan of 5 to 7 years. They thrive in water temperatures of 72-78°F and a pH of 8.1-8.4. Black and Gold Chromis are compatible with a variety of tank mates, including Yellow Tangs, Firefish Gobies, Banggai Cardinalfish, Cleaner Shrimp, and various coral species, as long as proper care and observation are provided. To ensure the ethical acquisition of these vibrant additions to your marine aquarium, it’s advisable to purchase from reputable suppliers.
